Guidelines to select the right kind of screw jacks

Confused about which type of screw jack is best for your working system? Don’t worry. We are here to help you guide in selecting the right one. There are three main types of screw jacks which also have the subcategories. Hence, it can be confusing for many people to understand and choose the right one. Here are the points to remember white making the right choice with the screw jacks.

Load requirements

While selecting the screw jack, you must calculate the load that need to be lifted regularly in your operation. Once that is done, you must not consider the exact load. Keep a safety margin to ensure safety if there is an increase in load.

Duty cycle

Duty cycle is basically the working duration of the screw jack. Calculate the working duration and working frequency before selecting the screw jack. For example, the worm gear screw jack can work for a shorter working duration. And the ball screw jacks can be used for longer working duration.

Environment of application

You must also consider the operating temperature, humidity, and whether there are any chemicals to deal with. You must select the screw jack that is made from the materials that are compatible for these environments.

Energy consumption

Calculate the horsepower limit of the screw jack. Calculate the torque and load that the jack needs to work with. Multiply the loads with the jack’s one-pound torque and multiply its result with the RPM of the screw.

Tolerance to back drive

You must check the self-locking ability of the screw jack. The self-locking feature is essential as it will prevent the back drive while the power goes down. The self-locking ability of the jack depends on the gear ratio and lift shaft efficiency.

Conclusion

Besides the points mentioned above, there are other things that you should consider while selecting the right jack. Such as the precision, position control, guidance support, etc. The hydraulic oil cooler manufacturers will guide you through all of these factors. The main three screw jack types include: worm gear screw jack, ball screw jack, and the bevel gear jack. Depending on your requirements, you can choose the right one.
