Hydraulic Vane Pump – Beyond Complexities
Vane pumps are used to take fluid from one place to another using high pressure. It is hence called a positive displacement pump. The pressure of the flowing fluid when raised through vanes mounted on the rotor forms a hydraulic vane pump. High-Pressure fluid can be moved with the help of this pump from one place to another.
This hydraulic vane pump can bear vanes of variable length or can have vanes tensioned to the wall of the pump, this helps in keeping contact as they rotate.
Vane pumps now do not have a line contact but an area contact between the rotor and the stator.
One can find these pumps in automobiles, power steering of vehicles, air conditioners, etc.
These pumps can handle moderate to low viscous fluid such as L.P gas, ammonia, solvents, alcohol, etc. not at all suitable for a highly viscous fluid. They can be used to change the pressure of gas from high to low.
Components:
1) Casing
As the name suggests it is the outer layer and the rest of everything is inside the casing of a vane pump. It bears 2 ports:
i) Inlet port: Fluid enters from here.
ii) Outlet Port: The high-pressure fluid leaves from here.
2) Shaft
It is connected with the prime mover.
3) Rotor
It is mounted on the shaft. With the power of a prime mover, it rotates. It has 3 slots around and several radial slots.
4) Sliding Vanes
You can find them in the slots of the rotor. These are rectangular and move inside the slot freely with the help of a spring attached to a rotor.
5) Cam Ring
Find this at the inner wall of the casing.
